PROTECT YOUR PEACE: Wellness Edition

If frayed nerves in your day to day interactions are a regular thing, you’re not alone. Millions of people spend countless moments in a state of anxiousness and generally feel overwhelmed about what life demands of them. While it’s impractical to assume the following tips will reduce those demands (although they actually might), they can at least help you reclaim some of your power and protect your peace.

OWN YOUR PART.

Are you saying yes to things that you’d rather say no to? Beyond the non-negotiable tasks on your list, what are you being asked to do that could literally damage your peace of mind? If you’re taking on tasks that you’d rather leave to someone else (particularly the person asking you to perform), ask yourself why. Are you leveraging your willingness as currency for loyalty? Do you like to feel needed? Do you feel guilty? Are you afraid that you may miss out on something if you refuse? Answering those questions honestly may help you assess what truly demands your energy and what does not.

NO IS A COMPLETE SENTENCE.

You don’t have to explain yourself. You don’t have to explain yourself. You don’t have to explain yourself.

TAKE A STRONG LOOK AT YOUR 24 HOUR CYCLE.

In any given day, how many minutes are reserved for you to do something that truly serves you and only you? We’re not talking about the job that you do to pay your bills or afford your lifestyle. We’re talking about the time you take to just be with yourself, however those moments may look. If you find a gross imbalance between what you do for others and the time you take for yourself, grant yourself the agency to balance that equation so that you are not energetically giving more than you’re getting back.

HONOR YOUR NEEDS.

You know what those needs are, whether they float around on your insides or you’ve made the effort to write it down. If those needs seem overwhelming, we suggest not only writing them down, but seeking help from a responsible party to help you organize them. The more you take an objective look at what you need to truly thrive, the more likely you’ll make space for them. That can look like turning away from the people and the situations that block this growth. Be gentle with yourself as you bravely pursue of peace of mind. Know that every little bit helps, and that you really can do this.
