We’ve all heard that drinking 8 glasses of water will lead to a clean gut and clear skin, and we all know that’s not necessarily true. While drinking water has plenty of benefits, sometimes what we add to that water can do even more for both our insides and our outsides.
GRAPEFRUIT:
Want to glow from the inside out? Try Grapefruit! It contains a good amount of Vitamin A and C. It is rich in minerals, antioxidants and has high water content. It keeps your skin’s outer layer hydrated, and Vitamin C and antioxidants protect the skin from environmental hazards. It also stimulates production of skin collagen which makes skin smooth, plump and increases elasticity. Squeeze half a grapefruit into your daily water intake and get that glow!
MINT:
This dark fragrant leaf is a powerhouse of nutrients. Around one-third cup of mint consumption in a day that can help you with the intake of folic acid, vitamin A, iron, and magnesium. Because folic acid helps to facilitate the development of healthy skin cells, it can help fight out premature aging, specifically wrinkles and fine lines. It can also increase the production of collagen. That means firmer and more toned skin. To use: gently crush a few leaves in the bottom of your glass before adding water to release the taste and benefits immediately.
LEMON:
Lemons can help purify and detoxify your body. The Vitamin C in lemons can also ward off the toxins that cause bacterial acne. It can help boost collagen production, and helps improve iron absorption. Squeeze half a lemon in a glass or jar and add your water. It is also helpful to use a straw with lemon (or any citrus) to keep the acid from negatively affecting the enamel on your teeth.
KALE:
Kale is rich in vitamins C, E, and K. Combined, these vitamins help your skin look younger and healthier. It’s also packed with antioxidants and phyto-nutrients. Kale can help tighten pores, reduce dark circles, promote collagen production, increase cell turnover, and detoxify your skin. Baby kale (or ideally micro-greens) may be able to deliver these benefits faster through water (and easier to eat raw after the fact… which you absolutely should do): shred the leaves with your hands and lightly crush into the bottom of your glass before adding your water.
